Best Way To Cover A Chair With A Throw – It snowed this morning, so I had to cancel client meetings, but I was allowed to eat frozen cereal and make a chair cover in my owl pajamas. She was Grrrreat (According to Tony the Tiger)!!!
I didn’t want to do a DIY project, but when I saw Thomas Paul’s scraps in my office, a light bulb went off (bing!). I have 2 parish chairs that I wanted to have professionally covered, but after picking up the scraps and looking out the window at the snow, I decided to see if I could have fun doing it myself. I’ve never done that.

Important: I don’t know how to use a sewing machine (this is one of my goals for 2011). It was a “very creative” project (as John Wayne would say). I used what I had at home. I have documented this below. If you like it, give it a try! I’m sure there are a million variations on how to do this, but here’s mine:

Draw the fabric on the chair. Play around with the fabric to see how it works best. Use pins to hold it in place so you can work with it better.
Mine worked best by cutting it in two pieces, one for the seat, which stuck down so the legs were exposed; And one that I wrap around the front and back of the chair, leaving the sides open because I didn’t have enough fabric to cover them.
Cut the fabric so you have an extra four inches (or a little less if you don’t have enough fabric) on all sides (as in the picture above). I needed an extra inch to fold the sides of the chair back fabric (step three), glue the chair back and seat fabric together and fasten them to the seat (step four) and nail them to the bottom of the chair (step five). .
Iron the fabric (I like to sing a Roxette song while doing this – try, “Oh, a little dangerous”).

If you’re using fabric that will be placed on the back of the chair (not the seat fabric), you’ll want to hide the raw edges on the sides of the chair by folding them over. I placed the fabric printed side down and with an extra four inches (or less if you don’t have enough fabric), rolled and ironed the edges so they stayed folded. Make sure your folded edge fabric still covers the width of the chair from end to end as mentioned above.
I put the fabric for the back of the chair and the fabric for the seat back on the chair. I used a witch stitch to adhere the seat fabric to the back fabric; Then, to hide the seam, I tucked the seam into the chair as shown above.
Lay the chair on its back and begin to tension the seat fabric by driving small nails under the chair (a staple gun also works). Pull the fabric to the corner and wrap as you would wrap a gift. *I found that the nails stayed straight when I was standing on the chair when I was running it.
On the back of the chair, I applied a line of fabric glue along the sides to attach it to the chair. Instead of fabric glue, you can use pin heads (like the next part in step seven).

Turn the front of the chair towards you. Add nail heads to the back of the chair (you can also use them on the back instead of the fabric glue in step 6). I spaced them 3 inches apart, but use more if you like the look of the nail heads.
There are many variations you can come up with for this project. You can use velcro to hold the fabric down, no need for nail heads, you can use laces on the sides for easy on and off, etc.
P.s – I hope my steps are clear as I don’t have much time to write them. My daughter came home early because of the snow.
I am working on another rectory I have and I am using another Thomas Paul relic. I love how it looks on my kitchen table. I can’t wait to see what the other one looks like!!

Or an old chair you picked up at the thrift store.
Wing chairs are considered a classic piece of furniture, having existed since the 17th century, but recently they have become popular as beautiful accent chairs that can certainly brighten up a room. Depending on the fabric used they can look elegant. With their skirts, they look comfortable in autumn and winter. Above all, they offer a high level of seating comfort. Reclining chairs offer privacy even in open spaces and, thanks to their high backrest and rounded curves, are perfect for quiet conversation.
If you are looking to buy new, it can be quite expensive. Buying new can be a big decision. However, if you’ve ever had one or found it at a thrift store, but you think it’s old, a little damaged, or the color no longer matches your interior design, you might want to consider refinishing it.

Changing clothes can also be very expensive; However, this is environmentally friendly as you don’t have to throw away your old furniture. There are a variety of options when it comes to reupholstering, as you can choose any color or fabric you want. But if it’s still out of budget, DIY is almost always the best solution.
Finding and refurbishing an old chair has many benefits. Here is a list of some of the benefits of wing chairs.
The fact is that wing chairs are expensive. Therefore, if you have an old one, it is ideal to restore it by rearranging it, because you only need to buy the necessary materials for renovation, such as: B. Fabric. You can also reuse other extra fabrics you have at home, such as old curtains.
One of the best things about DIY makeovers is that your items can be customized just the way you want them. Unlike buying a new piece of furniture where style is limited, a chair makeover allows you to choose the fabric and design you want.

If you don’t want the same style or wingback chair as others, only refurbishing will convince you that you are the only one in the world who has such furniture.
If you are new to chair upholstery and just need your chair reupholstered, professional help to reupholster your chair is ideal. This can cost you anywhere from $600 to $1,500. In fact, we reskinned one for about $650, and that doesn’t include the cost of the fabric.
If you like the DIY idea and want to save money, reupholstering a chair is cheaper than reupholstering because you already have your own tools. It will probably cost you between $300 and $450 to purchase materials such as fabric, batting, twine, and other necessary supplies at a fabric store.
Learning to reuse some of the items you have around the house, such as old clothes or curtains, will also help cut costs.

Do you have an old curtain that you love and haven’t used in years? If so, you can reuse it as a fabric source and save on the cost of reusing the chair. That’s exactly what we did.
I decided to use an old double layer curtain I made to reupholster the wings of these two chairs we found. The curtains were custom made but were too dark for our space. They were quite expensive. So I decided to reuse it for my wing chair and I’m so glad I did!
You usually want new upholstery fabric for your chairs to avoid wear and tear. So far, after three years, this linen cloth is very strong!
I found my wingback chairs through Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and Habitat for Humanity Restore Shops. Typically priced between $15 and $30 per chair, I think these chairs are a great deal. Many have beautiful bones, while others need a little tender love and care to add more filling or punch. Here’s a chair I found at a Habitat for Humanity restore store:

This is how they look next to the car, so you can see how big they are. I saved a lot of money buying these good bone chairs.
