Now that the big reveal is over, I’ll be sharing DIY projects with you over the next few weeks. The first is how I made the popular (but somewhat boring) IKEA POANG kids chair by painting the frame and adding a new cover with fabric from New Mom Designs. With a little effort, you can turn this chair into one of these inexpensive custom chairs.

If you’ve never seen a POANG infant seat, here’s what it looks like when you buy it:

A really nice chair, but the color scheme doesn’t go well with Carson’s room. At only $29.99 it’s a steal and I know I can make it look amazing with cheap fabric and paint. After sanding and painting the white frame, I made a cover out of a fun fabric I found at New Mom Designs.

I decided I didn’t want to put my head on top of my pillow, so using a seam ripper, I carefully removed it from the main pillow. He was stabbed, so he got off easily.

Measure the pillow. Cut 2 panels of your fabric 1 inch wider and 1 inch longer than the actual pillow. For example, my pillow is 15″W x 34.5″L, so I cut 2 panels 16″W x 35.5″L. (This is to leave a 1/2″ seam allowance on all the sides)

Attach the piping to the edges of the right side of the top panel. You can use or make any wire/tube you like. I chose to use Wrights 1/2″ Bias Tape Maxi Piping in white.

3. Once the tube is ready, sew it to the top panel with the zipper foot. Sew directly over or as close to the existing seam of your piping as possible.

Now that the top panel is done, let’s go back. Here’s what the back of the box looks like today: a top pocket that goes over the frame, then a bottom pocket with a velcro strip that goes under the seat frame. (The Velcro will help secure the pillow to the frame.)

We aim to reproduce these pockets in our cover so that the pillow can be adjusted and protected in the same way as the original.

Cut out the pocket pieces. Measure the back pockets and add 1″ wide by 2″ long. My top pocket panel is cut 16″W x 8″L and my bottom pocket is 16″W x 4.5″L. (The width should be the same for the front and back panels). Once cut, fold and press the top of each pocket 1/2″, then 1″ again, so each pocket piece looks like the pictures below.

Once pressed, stitch the edges to secure. Above the bottom pocket, sew a piece of velcro to match the existing velcro on the seat frame. (Make sure you use the

On the seat to fasten the velcro! Because ex. (if the seat has a loop side, sew to the hook side of the fabric)

Place the top panel (with the tube attached) face up on a flat surface. Pin the top and bottom pockets and right sides together.

On the back panel, first fold and press under the top edge 1″ and then another 1″. Place the back panel on top of the right side of the front panel and align the bottom edges. (Note that the top edge of the back panel is not flush with the top edge of the front panel. This is the hole created and we can close the inside and insert the pillow.) Pin.

Now we are ready to sew the panels! Using the zipper foot, sew the panels by sewing directly over the piping seam.

When you’re done sewing, cut the corners, turn the cover over and insert the pillow using the hole we made at the bottom of the top pocket. Secure the seat cover and you’re done! Now you have a custom booster seat for your child at a fraction of the cost.

Combining style + function, I can help you create a home for your family that is beautiful. as always, the chair is a sought-after example of a functional and elegant chair. The laminated beech frame provides comfortable stability, the cover is easy to clean as it is removable and machine washable. To sit comfortably and relax, you can use an armchair and a Poang ottoman. Different seat cushion designs make it easy to change the look of your POÄNG chair and your living room. The back provides good support for the neck.

Now, what are the ways to hack it? First, replace the covers if they are damaged or don’t fit your interior. Here you need sewing skills. You will need three pieces of fabric: 71″x27″, 36″x23″ and 12″x23″ – whatever you want to match the decor, of course. First, start by sewing the three pieces together, making sure the right sides are together. They are not the same width, so make sure you place the pieces in the center. Next, tie the two ends by folding the fabric 1/2″ and sew in a straight line. Then, with the fabric right side up, fold the long piece (36″ on the long side) over, 10″ past the edge. Then fold the short top piece (12″ on the long side) over, 3″ past the edge. Start in the middle of one of the sides, then pin the sides together. The easiest way is to take the fabric and pinch it as you go. When you get to the end, just keep the line even, leaving about 2 inches extra on the top piece. After pinning both sides, it’s time to sew the last two rows! Start about a inch from the end and finish about an inch before hitting the end of the fabric again. The corners can be tucked in after you’re done, allowing for a clean look. Turn this baby right side out and you’re good to slide on seat cushion! The envelope opening goes under the seat cushion and is not visible blah After placing the seat cushion back, simply place the fabric in two folds on the back of the seat and on the head cushion.

There are lots of creative ways to hack a chair: you can make a double Poang to share with someone, add an armrest or turn it into a gaming chair. Do you want to know how to do this whole metamorphosis? Read the tutorial below!

OK, our trusty 10-year-old Ikea Pello chair is in desperate need of a new cover, but the price (starting at $50 for a basic fabric design) makes that difficult. judging by the time I saw the new Pello it was only $69.

Since there was nothing wrong with the frame structure, I decided to sew the cover myself. In the craft section of Daiso I found a fabric (70cm x 60cm) in gray color (I used four) and cotton ball lace thread in the same color. The total bill came to just $10.

I kept the actual pillow + cover inside as padding. I sewed it all together by hand with a backstitch, it didn’t take long as no detailed cutting or measuring was required. The feel-good fabric sizes fit perfectly, and the cover can be washed (or changed) in the future.

Hi, I’m glad you found my site where I always write about my bread recipes + other things I do every day to slow down, especially with food waste and single use plastics. After all, we only have one world, let’s treat it right.
