Outdoor Arm Chair Plastic Cover For Cushion – Are your chairs and patio cushions a little sad after a long winter? Want to bring back patio cushions for summer? Just sit back and enjoy your garden and DIY birdhouse! I can show you how to do it…quick and easy.

First, my story: I’ve wanted rocking chairs on my front porch for years. Greg bought us two beautiful cane chairs a few weeks ago. They were brown, which didn’t come with our house, so she painted them white for me. But the cushions were still the boring beige that comes with the chairs. I’m not a beige girl. So we went to the fabric store and chose a bright and cheerful open canvas. But the dust sat on me for a while without doing anything. Does this sound familiar?

But yesterday afternoon was a lovely day and I knew it was time to put those ugly pillows back. It only took about an hour to restore both patio cushions from start to finish. This is a super easy sewing project…and if you don’t want to sew, there are options for that too. And my porch pillows weren’t even perfectly square. I’m going to show you how to restore your porch cushions quickly and easily!

Chair Cushions: For Enhanced Comfort And Support While Working

If you love sewing as much as I do, you can get a free ticket to the Sewing Summit June 1-5, 2020. From new to high! I’m one of the “devotees” and I have a detailed video on how to sew and assemble a Couch Caddy – it’s the only place you’ll find my video tutorial, so be sure to subscribe!

This is a complete step-by-step guide on how to restore patio cushions! Some of the links in this post are Amazon affiliate links for your convenience (this means I get a small commission if you click the link and make a purchase, but it won’t cost you a cent)!. Read my full disclosure policy.

First, lay the fabric on a flat surface, with the pattern on the side, and place the balcony cushion on top. Place the patio cushion in the top corner of the fabric, closing the back up and leaving enough space on the sides for the fabric to wrap around the patio cushion. If the fabric is too wide or long, cut it now. Make sure there is plenty of fabric on both sides of the patio cushion (I left three extra inches on each side).

Then pull the fabric up and over the balcony cushion so that it is completely covered. Your fabric will meet at the top. Leave an extra three centimeters of fabric on top and then cut off the excess.

Once your fabric is placed on the balcony cushion, seal the two sides. If your pillow is narrow in the back like mine, I suggest skipping the last pin and marking it in a different way, such as marking the pins on either side of the fabric (don’t just cover it) or fabric.

In the photo above you can see that I am pinning it instead of pinning it together.

Now pull the pillow carefully. If your couch cushion is stuck to the back like mine and you have trouble removing it, twist the couch cushion like it’s tucked into the fabric and remove it easily.

Pin each side in place and then remove the pins. You can see my black stitch lines in the photo below.

Then place the pillow in the fabric “envelope” you made (don’t turn the fabric right side out yet). Note the extra fabric on the two front corners of each garden cushion. Fold the fabric over the pillow by gluing it at both corners.

Remove the fabric from the pillow again and make a line on the corner. Remove the pins.

Now turn the fabric to the right side and place the pillow. In the photo below you can see how I folded the porch cushion to match the fabric envelope I made.

Press the pillow all the way into the fabric. Look at the beautiful corner it creates!

Now, just like you would wrap a gift, fold the remaining fabric over the back of the pillow. Pin it down.

Hopefully now you can see how easy it is to restore porch cushions. It only took about 20 minutes to complete. When this porch cushion fades I will get new fabric and reupholster it. Easy to cook! I also made a pillow top for these curved rockers – if you’d like a tutorial for that, let me know on my sewing team here!

May 2020 Update: I restored these patio pillows to where they were three years ago and they still hold! But the fabric is faded because I always forget to get it for winter. So it’s time to use this guide to restore them! The question is – what beautiful exterior fabric am I going to use this time? Finding the fabric will be more difficult than refurbishing the pillows because our craft shops are still not open. I have to be creative!
