What Kind Fabric Could Use For Cover Chair – If you don’t like your generic desk chair, this post is for you. I’m sharing how I transformed a boring (but very comfortable) desk chair with a custom cover and some spray paint.
Also, be sure to check out the update below, which shares how the chair looks after two years of use.
What Kind Fabric Could Use For Cover Chair
Last Christmas, my father-in-law gave us matching seats at the table. There’s only one and it’s pretty broken.

I love that it’s so easy (I mean SO) and actually some of the best I’ve had, rice!
But everything is dark and leathery and seems to stick to hot and painful days when I wake up 😛
So the other day I decided to clean it up with a polka dot cloth and spray primer and paint.
My main idea is to make a cover that is easy to remove and wash. As long as the cloth, it will be dirty.

The back is Velcro and the seat is made of rubber, so it can be removed later.
It has some wear on the underside of the seat armrests, so now is the perfect time to upgrade a bit.
I’m working in the sewing room at Office Craft, so I’ll show you all the pieces I’m working on (I currently have 3 more half-finished projects).
Every chair is different, so here are all the general points if you want to upgrade your chair.
Dining Chair Covers
For the cover, use about 4 yards of outdoor cotton canvas (but you’ll need to measure the length of the back and seat, don’t worry about the width) + about 1 yard of velcro and about 1 yard of 1/2 inch elastic.
First, we need to identify the face of the painting. In my case, I have a piece of plastic and a piece of metal.
So I bought separate spray primers specifically for metal and plastic to make sure each surface was covered in the best possible way.
Seats must be separated using the tools provided. In my case, the seat is designed to be installed with an Allen wrench.

Separate all the different parts so you can spray by ingredient. Then make the seat covers, backrests and armrests.
Only the armrest doesn’t have a removable cover (for washing purposes) but my armrest doesn’t really have a place to put anything so if you add rubber underneath like a seat, there’s room to empty it. in the armpiece is missing.
It’s just stapled, so if you need to wash, remove the stapler and start over when it’s clean.
For the sheet, I put the cover sheet on the other side of the fabric so it’s shaped to fit (that way you can see the sheet when it’s done).

I measured 5 inches from the top edge of the page (which is the edge of the elastic) that was folded (remember the page is facing the back).
Then fold the corner and pin it firmly (you can see in the picture below that it has been sewn for the back) and sew over the fold. (because ), the lower is the better group.
Stitching the edges gives it a bowl shape and helps it stay on the page.
Make a 2-inch fold at the top of the bowl, leaving a small opening for the elastic to pass through and sew.

Now you have the seat cover, but for a seat like mine, you need to drill a small hole in the side (where the screws go through).
The main difference is that my chair has a fold to separate the back and headrest, which makes that part look complicated.
So I used Gorilla glue to attach the Velcro to the leader and the Velcro to the other part in the middle of the fabric so the cover didn’t have to be sewn to the seat.
Place the fabric on the page with the right side of the page facing up and fold the edges (as you did with the page side)
How To Cover A Button With Fabric (and Make Your Dining Chairs So Much Cuter)
I sewed the pleats and sewed the Velcro tape that was attached earlier, making it a bowl shape again.
So I put the fabric on top of the back again, but this time with the other side on top (so I can turn the cover inside) and put the second fabric on the back
Signature! Remember that the slip will easily slide off your back as long as you shape the top and not the bottom.
After securing the two pieces and cutting off the excess, I sewed them together and added 10 inches of Velcro in the center of the bottom so I could fold the sides and close the lower seat back cover.

Like the seat piece, I had to drill holes for the screws that would go into the arm piece. I zigzag it so it doesn’t fall apart when I wash it.
In the picture below you can see how the sides are folded and fastened with Velcro at each end (top and bottom)
It annoys me that I have to take off my sleeves every time I wash the cover, but on the other hand, I can do it instead of cleaning it and throwing it in the washing machine if it gets dirty.
Even though Curly played with my feet and his little paws scratched the bottom, there were no scratches on the paint. That’s great.

We’ve also added an update with a back image, so scroll down!
It’s hard to clean that area, so I recommend making a cover to wash it – hehe.
Ken chuckled about my chair now screaming “I’m Joy”, but I’m fine!
I hope in the future Ken will take me up on my offer to modify the chair a bit =]

Edited to add – 9/12/2013 It’s been almost 2 years since I updated this chair and I still have excellent people! Add a photo to the side. This is a picture of the chair a year and a half after I made the cover! I washed it several times and the paint on the seat is still almost perfect =]
Thank you for your cooperation in collecting chairs. I have a few questions about the Velcro attached seat tops. Is it under the headrest padded and above and below the seat? I’m also curious about the hood pleats. After the cover, do you sew it or just fold it with Velcro? I found this and really like your results! It’s very simple, isn’t it? I would love to see a video of you making this! thank you once again!
I love how you ‘wonder’ with the chair. You arranged the chairs and instructions well. Thank you for sharing. The chair looks nice but the white canvas it comes with. I knew the chair wouldn’t last long in a house with two little boys and frequent dinner guests. An online search led me to the Harts Fabric website. After looking at the amazing selection of laminated fabrics and cottons, I contacted Harts to see if they would be interested in collaborating with me on this article. !

I covered the chair in two ways, by stitching the fabric directly to the seat of the chair, or by sewing an elastic slipper cover. These instructions have specific dimensions for the IKEA Borge chair, but can be modified to fit your chair.
Let’s start with a simple stapler! I use a heavy duty upholstery tack gun with 1/4 inch staples. For each sheet
